Q1. How and when did you start your Entrepreneur Journey to serve in the Wedding industry? What inspired you to start your own business? Bei...
Being on stage has always been a very exciting experience for me. While I was in my last year of college, my two friends and I had started an Event Management Company with the intention of doing something productive and utilising our time effectively. Once we graduated, we dissolved the company. However, I wanted to still be connected with events and the best way for me to do so was by continuing to host them. My love for events and the microphone came together and ‘The Sutradhaar’ was born. For a long time, I pursued it just as a part time hobby and did various kinds of events, all via word-of-mouth marketing. I have hosted events right from weddings to corporate events to sport events to parties to baby showers to brand installations to pub quizzes in my tenure of 10 years. The last few years is when I decided to convert this hobby into a full time profession. With the immense experience and love for what I do, I’m glad that I have been able to create some wonderful memories for thousands of people over the years.
Q2. Kindly describe more about your business, your role, products/services.
Sutra in Sanskrit means string and Dhaari is one who holds. I believe everyone’s event is their story and I, The Sutradhaar is the one who will present it to their audience. My mission is to give my clients a special memory on their important days.
Q3. Please share about the unique feature/specialty/USP of your Product/Service.
My USP is my ENERGY. One can be sure of having a full of energy, full of life event - making a wonderful memory for themselves forever!
Q4. How would you explain the importance of your role in a Wedding?
I feel nothing but grateful that I have been handed over the responsibility of creating some lovely memories for the couple on their extremely special day. Leaving all their guests with an impression of a crazy time that they had during the wedding is what I would like to describe my role as. Creating the vibe, energising the crowd and keeping that energy going throughout the event is my focus area.
Q5. What are the most common challenges you face at the wedding you are handling?
Sometimes, due to the heavy pressure of a wedding - meetings with the couple get delayed and the information transfer becomes last minute. Also, during the event, there are possibilities of technical glitches which often result in a blank spot.
Q6. How do you deal with these challenges?
Well, it’s extremely essential to be patient while dealing with wedding events. I understand that there could be delays and hence I keep myself ready with backups. Also, the decade’s experience that I have, helps me keep my confidence of being able to pull off events and deal with such challenges. The second challenge of glitches and blank spots is something I now consider my speciality. One can never be ready for a crisis, but I keep myself ready with the process of how to deal with one. I consider these glitches as opportunities for me to showcase my expertise.
Q7. Could you share one of your most unique creations/experience for/of a wedding?
Off late, social media has really been booming. I also have a background in acting and filmmaking and hence I thought of bringing it to use in my events too. I’ve started making ‘live reels’ for my clients at their weddings. I plan the reel and direct the couple live on stage which results in 1. Another special memory for the couple & 2. A spectacle for the audience of how a shoot is done. I record the shots during the event and after a couple of days, deliver the final edit.
Q8. What type of collaborations would you like to explore in future?
I’m open to all kinds of collaborations and would love to help couples plan their Sangeets in a particular ‘Theme’. It’s quite rare now to have a full fledged theme during the Sangeets. I could lend my help there and try to elevate the experience for all the attendees at the Sangeet.
Q9. What is your vision for the next five years?
I’d like to become a household name all over the country and be associated with as many weddings/stories as I can. What has always kept me going and what will continue to keep me going is the “Well done!” I receive from the attendees of the events.
Q10. What would you advise new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in the business?
We all have ideas and passions we’d like to pursue. But there are times when we often doubt ourselves. It's not about “Will I be able to do it?”, it is more “Will I be able to do it well?”. And that “well” takes time. And the only way to achieve it is by getting out there and trying again and again and again. It may be a product or a service, but you need to keep going. And each time, focus on getting only 0.5 times better than your previous self. Confidence, belief and skill.. all 3 start growing!
